Hieronymus Bosch, The Garden of Earthly Delights, c. 1480-1505, oil on panel, 220 x 390 cm (Prado, Madrid)

Garden of Earthly Delights is a unique painting for its time and in the 15th century Northern Renaissance. In fact, besides Bosch’s landscape, detail-oriented, symbolic motifs relevant to the style of the time, the painting resembles the surrealism and abstraction of art in the 20th century.

Famous Surrealist Paintings from the 20th cent.
